Elana Burstein
Sustainability & Communications Program Manager
As Manager of the Sustainability & Communications Programs, Mara Elana Burstein oversees Environment Now's programs in Air, Urban Development and Energy. Mara also manages EN’s internal and external communications and publications.
Prior to joining EN, Mara organized the Mill Creek Watershed
Council in Marion County, Oregon. She coordinated the council
as a purely advisory volunteer organization, which includes
diverse stakeholders from five different cities as well as
agricultural land. It is the only voice and forum for individuals,
businesses, nonprofits, and government agencies to identify
and address watershed health, across jurisdictional boundaries.
Mara has volunteered with Alaska Center for the Environment
and is a volunteer counselor every summer, at The Painted
Turtle Camp, for children with disabilities.
When Mara is not volunteering, camping, or hiking, she is
making a mess with paints. She appreciates opinions and feedback
on her abstract acrylic originals, and would love to hear
from you. Mara Elana is a recent graduate of Willamette University,
in Salem, OR, with a BA in Environmental Studies, with double
emphasis in Economics and Sociology. She has also studied
the rainforest and The Great Barrier Reef at James Cook University
in Queensland, Australia.
